A team from the Workforce Institute Development Branch, Department of Global Health Protection, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC) visited AFENET Liberia from August 22 to September 1, 2022. The purpose of the visit was to improve understanding of LFETP’s strengths and weaknesses and support the program on its path towards institutionalization. They had an introductory meeting with the leadership of NPHIL. They were also warmly received by the AFENET Liberia team. The US CDC team, represented by Gina Engler and Ellen Yard, had an engagement with different programs/projects implemented by AFENET Liberia. These programs/projects include the FETP, Acute Febrile Illness (AFI) Surveillance, rapid response team (RRT), risk communication and community engagement (RCCE) and adverse events following immunization (AEFI) surveillance, Polio BMGR and Polio GID, and The National Action Plan for Public Health Security (NAPHS). The team also engaged with residents and reviewed their presentations for the National Scientific Conference and TEPHINET Conference that were coming up at the time.
About Us
The Liberia Field Epidemiology Training Program (LFETP) began in August 2015. The program is funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and implemented by the African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET). Emory University was instrumental and directly involved in standing up and implementing the program for the first year of LFETP’s existence.
