Call for Applications: Liberia Intermediate Field Epidemiology Training Program 2024

The National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), with support from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC) and the African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET), invites applications for the ninth cohort of the Liberia Intermediate Field Epidemiology Training Program (LFETP-I), commencing in December 2024.

Program Overview

The LFETP-I is a 7-9 month in-service training program designed to build local capacity for public health surveillance and emergency preparedness and response through the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) system.

Training Areas

  • Public Health Surveillance: Conducting surveillance system evaluations, secondary data analysis, and using surveillance for public health action
  • Planned Studies: Designing and conducting epidemiologic studies, using Epi Info to analyze data
  • Outbreak Investigations: Conducting descriptive and analytic epidemiology, writing outbreak reports
  • Scientific Communication: Developing presentations for local, national, and international audiences, developing abstracts on work-related projects

Eligibility

  • Job-Related: Staff of NPHIL, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, Environmental Protection Agency, and other agencies in surveillance- or data management-related positions
  • Academic: Graduate of Frontline FETP and/or prepared to undertake pre-admission frontline competency assessment; non-FETP graduates with at least a first degree in Public Health or health sciences
  • Logistics: Access to a functioning laptop, Zoom application, and stable internet
