A case of acute flaccid paralysis was reported by a nurse aid at Polar clinic, Gbao district on 16th May, 2016. Initial report indicated that the patient developed fever with severe weakness of the left leg and left arm for the past five days. The county and district health team moved in to investigate the case on the same day led by Comfort T. Payne (Frontline FETP graduate). Clinical sample was collected and sent to the laboratory for confirmation. Patient is currently being managed and monitored as the team awaits laboratory results.
About Us
The Liberia Field Epidemiology Training Program (LFETP) began in August 2015. The program is funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and implemented by the African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET). Emory University was instrumental and directly involved in standing up and implementing the program for the first year of LFETP’s existence.
